Children are placed in a campus foster home
or in a residential treatment house, depending on their needs. The
options range from homes with four to eight children and foster parents, to
family-like residential treatment units, to an intensive supervision unit
operated as a medical milieu. HCYR offers a broad range of
possibilities for
finding a suitable environment as each child heals, needs a particular
structure, or changes with age. A comprehensive individualized
educational plan is developed for each child, according to his or her needs,
in one of four settings: Charter Elementary School, Charter Middle School,
Charter High School, or Public School. The Youth Ranch is committed to
long-term comprehensive care of children, including post-care support for
young adults in transition from state custody, and its alumni of all ages.

Every staff member is a qualified
professional in his or her department, and is also encouraged to share special gifts as a way of enriching the program. As a complement
to our top-flight interdisciplinary childcare team, we offer numerous recreational and
creative outlets including basketball, baseball, football, volleyball,
swimming, racquetball, weightlifting, gymnastics, a horse program, painting,
dancing, songwriting, poetry, and drama, all supervised by skilled
professionals. Vocational skills training is
available in such areas as the library, computer lab, video and
audio production studios, blackbox theatre, visual arts complex, woodworking
shop, mechanics and maintenance barn, greenhouse, livestock management, and
landscaping projects. We have an on-site chapel and chaplain to guide
the children in their spiritual growth as well. |

Children living on the Ingram campus are eligible to
attend school at any of the four venues listed at the left, depending on their ages and needs. Individual tutoring is available for all
students, and a team of educators insures that progress is monitored and
academic deficits are addressed. Children living at the Leakey campus
attend one of the highly-acclaimed Brune Charter Schools, located on the 7,000-acre Big Springs Ranch. The excellent staff-student ratio encourages a comprehensive individualized
approach for each student. All graduates of HCYR are eligible for
financial support from the John Givens Scholarship Fund, an endowment fund
set up specifically for Youth Ranch alumni, should they decide to pursue an educational or vocational program beyond high school.
Graduates are also eligible to apply for post-care residency at Enhanced
Horizons, HCYR's campus for emancipated foster youth between 18 and 24. |
