For many years, Michelle was the victim of childhood incest. It was not until she began to fear that her younger sister was beginning to be the target of abuse from their father that she told someone. She wrote a poem, All Those Years, at age 14, while she was living at HCYR, after being removed from her home by the child welfare system. Although she states that she has forgiven her father, Michelle’s testimony helped put him behind bars. Inspired by her story and her courage, this song is dedicated to all who have suffered such a devastating cruelty.

Daddy, Can You See Me?
Vocal: Susan Balentine
Words and Music: Douglas Balentine, Susan Balentine, Carol Priour

Chorus:
Daddy, can you see me?
Cause there’s a child inside this shell.
Daddy, won’t you free me?
You hold the key to my cell.

Is it me that you keep on hurting
with some demon in your heart?
Can you hear me cryin’ Daddy?
Do you need me to fall apart?

Do you ever see my face
as you lead me through your hell?
Did you know that it was me
when you told me not to tell?

I want you to hold me,
I need you to care,
but when I look for Daddy,
there’s no Daddy there.

Chorus

Do you ever see my face
as you lead me through your hell?
Did you know that it was me
when you told me not to tell?
