Intelligent and gifted, Cathy grew into an independent young woman after she graduated from high school while living at the Ranch in 1993. She moved to Houston to live, and, out on her own, found herself pregnant and unmarried. Despite advice to the contrary from people who had observed her rebellious ways, Cathy insisted on having her baby and made the courageous choice of giving the baby up for adoption so that the little girl could have the best chance possible.

Fly High My Phoenix
Vocal: Glenda Lynn
Words and Music: Carol Priour, Kim Abel-Snell

I don’t make much money.
It never seems to last.
People say that it’s such a shame.
No pretty party dresses,
no ribbons for your hair.
Maybe I’m the one to blame.
They said I couldn’t have you
when you came into this world
because they’ve seen the things I do.
All I knew was that I loved you,
my precious little girl,
so I did what I had to do.

Chorus: Fly high my Phoenix,
you can rise above the fire.
A better life awaits you,
head for bluer skies.
Fly high, fly high my Phoenix, fly.

Sometimes in the stillness
I can see you in my eyes,
and I can see my mama, too.
All she ever wanted
was a way to stop the pain
and that’s what I want for you.
So show the world your best,
I know your wings are strong.
Never give up hope and you will find
God’s got you in His hands,
I’ve known it all along.
You can leave these ashes behind.

Chorus
