two campuses - Cailloux Elementary and Najim Middle Schools at Hill Country Youth Ranch in Ingram, and the Ed Brune Middle and High
Schools on the Big Springs Ranch for Children near Leakey. Opportunities are
regularly available for teachers, aides and administrative and support staff.
The schools serve approximately 120 HCYR resident children as well as some 30
community children whose needs are better met in our award-winning educational

for testing scores amongst our students, and teachers have been recognized for
exceptional classroom work. If you are interested in being a part of our
children's lives through education please visit the

Make a contribution as grandparents to abused and orphaned children living
at the Big Springs Ranch for Children (BSRC) near Leakey, Texas. Serve as volunteer teachers,
mentors, counselors and/or grandparents one day each week. Live in
a separate, two-bedroom home on the Frio River next door to a 6,000 sq. ft.
"homestead" housing eight
children and houseparent couple. See Two
Ranches to learn about BSRC, and also read about our
Grandparents Program.
Requirements
Must be fifty years of age or older, in good health. Able to live on current resources
without additional salary. Some experience with youth preferred. Childcare
training provided. Housing provided. Must have desire to offer
time and share

Without volunteers, the Youth Ranch would not exist as it does today.
Volunteers have provided specialized contributions to enrich the HCYR program,
in fields ranging from science to architecture to songwriting and many others. An
RV park at the Big Springs Ranch allows on-site stays by volunteer
groups and individuals. The HCYR Auxiliary, with chapters in Kerr and
Real Counties, organizes volunteer opportunities for
over 300 men and women in the central Texas area who live within driving distance of the
two ranches. Volunteer activities include helping with a variety of
projects through either of the
two Auxiliaries, one in Kerr County and
the other in Real County.
Activities include working in one of the thrift stores, hosting special
events, helping with new buildings or maintenance, mentoring or tutoring children, bringing Christmas and birthday gifts to the children, and acting as their
ambassadors in the larger community. For more information, visit our
Two Ranches web pages with lots of info about the
two campuses, or, to speak with someone about participating, first fill out and submit the electronic
application form provided below, indicating that you want to know about
volunteering.
