Begun in 1996, The Children's Music Project is an ongoing program in which songwriters and musicians collaborate with abused and orphaned children to compose songs derived from the life-stories and writings of the children.  These songs have proven to be very powerful.  Thanks to a host of Texas' finest songwriters and musicians, we have created recordings of remarkable quality and lasting appeal. After the first album had been recorded, we began to produce a summer show involving the kids in a musical drama based on these songs and their life stories.  We also offer a recording of this highly acclaimed play.  You can ask here for one of the CD recordings and one of the music videos listed below, for free, and purchase more copies by going to order online with your credit card or by printing our order form and mailing your request with a check.  All proceeds support children at HCYR, and the arts program that serves them.  Please visit The Children Music Project or Children's Theater to learn more about these powerful programs.

CD Albums of songs derived from writings and life-stores of children (choose one)

Broken Wings Can Fly CD Broken Wings Can Fly contains 11 songs recorded by artists like Sara Hickman, Flaco Jimenez, Monte Montgomery, Mike Cross, and others who worked from the children's poetry and life stories to create songs of redemption and triumph in a variety of musical genres.  These hauntingly beautiful songs have received acclaim nationally, and are a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.  Read more.

Heart Like a Flower CD In 2008, a second album, Heart Like a Flower, was completed, and once again, the result was inspiring and beautiful. As the word has spread about The Children's Music Project, even more of Texas' most well-known and accomplished singers, songwriters and musicians made a pilgrimage to Ingram to work with sound engineer Tony Young on the songs.  "Stunning" is the comment of one reviewer.
